Kountry Kickers

 

Senior Dance Group

 

Kountry Kickers purpose is to entertain and boost the spririts of people in nursing homes and assisted living facilities

Kountry Kickers performs shows fall through spring during the daytime hours. The program is about 30 minutes and features dancers performing five or six songs, each with a different dance routine. An emcee introduces dancers and narrates the shows. Services are provided free, but donations are appreciated. Funds are distributed among local charities decided upon by members.

Rehearsing is scheduled before performances at the Slovak Hall in Merrillville or Woodmar United Methodist Church in Hammond.

Slavena advises seniors to "Keep on moving, it keeps you young and healthy. We enjoy performing because it's exercise for the mind and body and some of these dances include as many as 64 steps"

People might be surprised to know: "Our members range in age from 62 to 83 years of age, " Savena said. "Our 83 year-old member performed and entertained in the USO shows during World War II.
